This one goes out to all you BUCKiTDREAMERS who are either A) filthy rich or B) not filthy rich but want to spoil yourself with the trip of a lifetime to one of the planet’s dreamiest and most spectacularly expensive destinations.
On this blog, we often write about ways you can travel the world and experience exotic places without breaking the bank. We recommend cheap but cool locations and discuss ways you can save money while you travel.
But not today!
Today we are throwing caution to the wind! We are going all out and imagining (perhaps only as a thought experiment, or perhaps this is relevant and doable for you) that money is no object. In this make-believe (or otherwise) scenario we have millions in the bank and we want to spend a large chunk of it on a dream vacation to a high-end, expensive, dream destination.
So, open up the vaults dear BUCKiTDREAMERS, and get ready to blow some cash! Here is our list of 6 dream destinations to visit if money is no problem. Cha-ching!
British Virgin Islands The British Virgin Islands are a playground for the rich and famous. They are expensive to get to and expensive to stay on. People certainly come to BVI for the glorious beaches and fantastic weather, but the main attraction of the islands, with their steady trade winds, sheltered harbors, and calm seas, is surely the sailing. Some of the world’s most ridiculously luxurious billionaire-owned yachts cruise around these islands.
Luckily for Richard Branson (who owns an island in the area) and co., the ‘Golden Age of Piracy’ (1690-1730) when pirates scoured these waters and even used the islands as a base, is long over! The British Virgin Islands are now a (pirate-free) safe haven for billionaires from all over the world.
New York The views may be spectacular, iconic and free, but very little else in NYC comes without a hefty price tag attached! The Big Apple is now the most expensive city in North America. If you want to take advantage of the cool bars, excellent restaurants, and the general wealth of awesome attractions that New York City boasts, it will be very difficult to do so without spending rather a lot of cash. A trip to NYC is a once-in-a-lifetime experience – it is a city not to be missed (but it’ll certainly cost you).
Dubai An oasis of glass, steel, fountains, lights, smooth tarmac, and bling in the otherwise arid United Arab Emirates, Dubai is a miracle of artificial irrigation and a testament to what petrodollars can buy. The Burj Khalifa is the city’s signature feat of astonishing engineering, but it will surely be eclipsed soon, as the city continues to expand, becoming more and more ridiculously salubrious.
Needless to say, this place is expensive, but there is a lot of fun to be had here. If you visit Dubai it is worth going all-out. We recommend a skydiving expedition – it costs, but hurtling towards this strange, man-made desert oasis at breakneck speed is an experience you will certainly never forget!
Tuscany The rolling green hills of this mainly rural region of northwestern Italy smell sweet and fragrant as the warm Mediterranean breeze rolls over the fertile land and into your lucky, wide-open nostrils. Tuscany is a place of unparalleled beauty – the food is fresh and delicious (the local produce is enviably good), the local wine is world-famous, and it’s main city Florence is a Mecca of art and culture, with prized masterpiece paintings and sculptures dotted all over the city in churches, museums, and galleries. Tuscany is one of the most expensive areas in Europe to visit, but it is well worth going into (at least a bit of) debt for!
Seychelles Warm, turquoise water lapping at your toes, pure-white soft sand tickling your fingers, the fresh smell of jungle greenery in your nostrils, birdsong and ocean waves breaking gently on your eardrums… and the delicate flavor of the most expensive cocktail you’ve ever had caressing your tongue. The Seychelles is a ‘Heaven on Earth’ in the Indian Ocean off East Africa. It is a classic honeymoon destination, and its level of luxury is unsurpassed; but it’s predictably expensive, to boot. The Seychelles is a glorious archipelago of eye-watering natural beauty and, if money is no problem, we highly recommend a visit.
Paris There are things to do in Paris that won’t cost you an arm and a leg, but trying to experience the ‘city of romance’ on a tight budget, especially if you are on a romantic vacation with a partner, is very limiting indeed. The exquisite restaurants that Paris boasts tend to be exquisitely priced also (and not in a good way). Bars and accommodation are not cheap, either. Paris is a fantastic and unique world capital that needs to be experienced… but you won’t do it on a shoestring!
That was our BUCKiTDREAM list of 6 dream destinations to visit if money is no problem. Whether you are enjoying a pricey tasting menu on Manhattan, marveling at yet another wonder of engineering in Dubai, or soaking up the golden Indian Ocean sun in an exclusive beach resort on the Seychelles, don’t forget to share (and show off) your expensive dream destination experiences on social media.
