Weddings are an occasion that you either love or hate, but one thing’s for sure: they can get awfully alike. From the ceremony (religious or otherwise) to the reception, drinks, and dancing, there is a definite cookie cutter trend for modern weddings.

The good news is there are some really crazy and different options out there for people who want to enter matrimony slightly outside of the box. Thrill seekers and landscape lovers will go loco for the experiences that we’ve gathered together for a wedding on the wild side. It won’t be the same as any other wedding, but if you go for any of the options below, you’ll have the best day of your life that you will never forget.

Don’t forget to put these unusual wedding venues on your ultimate bucket list and in your BUCKiTDREAM planner!

Go for the Shock Factor in a Shark Tank (USA) If you go nuts for marine life, the Long Island Aquarium in New York state will go to any length to ensure you have the best day of your life. They provide a variety of packages, and if you want to kick off married life with an adrenaline rush, you can tie the knot in their 120,000-gallon shark dive tank. Despite what you may think, the venue is very chic and offered high-class dining from a professional chef, with sit-down or buffet options, as well as top-shelf liquor for your cocktail hour and dancing. Get started at Atlantis Banquet and Events.

Say Your Vows Via Scott Island (Antarctica) Scott Island is a small, uninhabited island in the territory of Antarctica that’s not the most logical venue for a wedding, as it is completely inaccessible by sea. The sheer cliffs mean you need to visit Scott Island via helicopter, but this didn’t stop Andy and Molly from the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society from exchanging vows on its wild, icy landscape in 2009. They were the first couple to be married in the territory and the ceremony was performed by their ship’s Captain, Watson. Instead of dresses and tuxes, Andy and Molly wore orange insulated snow suits, but Andy declared it “one of the happiest moments of my life.”

Take a Bite Out of Life (and Each Other) at Dracula’s Castle (Romania) If you’re a couple who likes to embrace the spooky side of romance, a wedding at Bran Castle in Romania may be the ideal venue for you. In Transylvania, where the mythical Count Dracula lived in immortality, Bran Castle was the inspiration for Count Dracula’s home in Bram Stoker’s iconic novel. Bran Castle is now a museum that is dedicated to the life and home of Queen Marie, and it’s owned by her descendants. Happy couples can apply to have their wedding there but must be pre-approved by the family.

Address: Strada General Traian Moșoiu 24, Bran 507025, Romania

Make Your Memory Sweet at Voodoo Doughnuts (USA) Let’s face it – everyone loves doughnuts. But do you love doughnuts enough to dedicate your wedding day to the yummy confections? Many people do, which is why Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland, Oregon, and other locations offer a wedding service for those addicted to the dough. They offer a number of packages, from a bare-bones legal wedding to an all-inclusive wedding that includes a tour of Portland from the wacky owners of Voodoo, Cat Daddy, and Tres. While you’re there, why not try their eating challenge?

Get Guests Excited on a Great Wall (China) The Great Wall of China is one of the most iconic and incredible examples of human work and architecture. It stretches across the Chinese and Mongolian border with a length of over 13,000 miles. It is now one of China’s most popular tourist destinations, but can also be used as a backdrop for a beautiful, yet unusual, wedding. Home of the Great Wall offers numerous options for both Chinese and Western style weddings that can accommodate up to 300 guests. They also offer a range of different venues along the wall, as well as numerous accommodation options that cater for a range of budgets.

Make It a Day (and Hike) to Remember on a Mountain (Nepal) A wedding at Mount Everest may seem like a completely illogical move (except to the most adventurous of couples), but it proved the perfect destination for James and Ashley, who tied the knot at Everest base camp in March 2017. Base camp is located at 17,598 feet altitude and requires substantial work to hike to. Temperatures are sub-zero and Ashley couldn’t wear high heels with her white dress – it was hiking boots all the way! Despite having to stay an extra night at base camp due to undue weather, their amazing photos speak for themselves!

Be Your Own Badass Show at Burning Man (USA) Arguably the ultimate hipster experience, marriage at Burning Man is not for the faint of heart. Occurring every year in the Nevada desert, Burning Man is a mini-society that springs up in the desert for a week every August. The theme of the festival is anti-consumerist and most cash transactions are not permitted. Music, art and culture spring up in the desert and everything is dismantled and taken away when it’s all over. If you prefer tying the knot in the desert, either organize an officiant or get a friend ordained. Just make sure you have your wedding license in order!

Have a Wedding That’s Out of This World (Space) The idea of space weddings didn’t ever seem possible, but now thanks to Virgin Galactic, it may be commonplace in the near future. Marketed as the first-ever commercial space airline, Virgin Galactic may be able to offer onboard weddings as part of their services when spaceflights become operational. While the astronomical (pun intended) space fares may be out of reach for the average couple, this may be one for the space-obsessed who can plan in advance. After all, Virgin Galactic has yet to announce the date of their first flight.

If you decide to take the plunge in a more unusual fashion, don’t forget to tag your photos on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to make sure everyone knows you and your partner are entering your best #BUCKitDREAM life together!
