BUCKiTDREAMER Akvile Harlow, @akvile on the app, has shared moments from her dream vacation to Belize where she crossed off several bucket list items.

Visiting Central America, especially Belize, has been on my bucket list for a number of years. As life gets busier, we often don’t have time to do things we yearn to, but it’s important. Make time, at least once each year. To kick off 2016, my cousin Eva and I packed our bags and headed down to experience bucket list-worthy Belize. Little did we know just how much we’d fall in love with the country, its remarkable beauty, welcoming people, delectable food, and turquoise waters.

“Belize “ it or not, our week long adventure wasn’t long enough and it surely was amazing beyond words. If you haven’t been to Belize, add it to your list, fellow BUCKiTDREAMER, and make it happen. If you’re wondering what to do there, here are some bucket list experiences you may want to try:

Take an Overnight Sailing Trip:
Let’s not waste time and kick things off with the highlight of our trip. A three day, two night catamaran sailing adventure from Caye Caulker (small island in northern Belize) down the barrier reef and to Placencia (Southern Belize). My friend Jeanna shared photos of her time on this sailing trip last year and that is what moved visiting Belize to the top of my list. I’ve always wanted to spend time sailing the seas and this was an amazing introductory point. We had a group of 22 people total, including Captain Jerry, Shane, and Garif, and our fantastic chef, Jacob. We snorkeled two-three times each day, sailed, fished, camped, and made some wonderful new friends. If you go to Belize, look up Ragamuffin Tours and tell them I sent you!

Camp on a Private Island:
When scrolling through the BUCKiTDREAM app, I often see other people adding a stay on a private island to their list. I never though I would get an opportunity to do this, but the Raggamuffin crew made this happen for our first overnight stop. Just 22 of us, two island care takers, and two ospreys who had nests there. We set up camp on Rendezvouz Caye, cooked fish we caught for dinner and danced the night away under the starry, moonlit sky.

Snorkel the Worlds Second Largest Barrier Reef:
Runner up in size after Australia, the reef in Belize is 190mile (300km) long and is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System. We swam for hours each day, encountered nurse sharks, sting rays, Moray eels, starfish, jelly fish, and dozens of other incredible coral reef residing species.

Go Fishing in the Ocean:
I went fishing a few times as a child, however, only rivers. I’ve been yearning to give it a try out in the ocean and cross it off my bucket list, so when the opportunity presented itself, I couldn’t say no. Something latched on in the morning, however, got away. It gave me a sense of hope and a boost of confidence, so I kept trying until mid afternoon, then something latched on again. This time, I couldn’t let it get away again. I reeled in as hard as I could and caught a Barracuda! What a thrill! I then learned how to clean him and we cooked him for dinner that evening once we docked for our second night of the sailing expedition, on Tobacco Caye.

Swim in an Infinity Pool:
After several days of other traveling, adventures, and then a weekend sailing tour, we craved a shower and a comfortable bed to rest up in before making the trek back home. For the final leg of our trip, we decided to treat ourselves and stay a night at a hotel, which also happened to have an infinity pool. Swimming in one has been on my bucket list for quite some time, so when my cousin had booked our final night at the Belize Ocean Club and I saw that I could finally swim in one, you knew where to find me.

If you’re looking to travel someplace new and haven’t explored the beautiful country of Belize, add it to your BUCKiTLIST, pack your bags, bring a friend, and go. It may just be one of the most memorable trips you ever take!
